Our in-house Hospice ICU was developed in response to a critical gap we frequently faced—patients under our care requiring urgent, intensive support such as post- surgical recovery, tracheostomy management, BiPAP support, or ongoing infection control. While their conditions did not always demand full-scale hospital ICU care, they
did require close monitoring and critical interventions beyond what standard palliative units could offer. In many instances, arranging ICU admissions at hospitals—especially during odd hours—became a logistical challenge. The need to assign dedicated caregivers, manage transport, and ensure continuity of care highlighted the pressing necessity for an in-house solution. These difficulties, coupled with the financial strain and lack of immediate support for abandoned patients, made it evident that a specialized, compassionate alternative was essential.

To address this, we established a Hospice ICU equipped with centralized oxygen and suction systems, real-time patient monitoring, and advanced infrastructure. While the ICU was initially designed for the complex requirements of our inpatients, we recognized its potential to serve a wider section of the community. Today, the unit is also open to financially backward patients in our region, ensuring that high-quality, intensive care is accessible even to the most underserved—right when they need it most.
