Oottupura: Hospital Meal Service

Hospital Meal Service

Jeramiah’s Home began its journey with a simple yet impactful initiative: a collaboration with General Hospital Ernakulam to provide meals to patients. This service, which started under the Rosary Divine Charitable Trust (an initiative of the chairman Mr. K J Peter), was fully taken over by Jeramiah’s Home three years ago and has since
become an essential part of the hospital’s care system. In 2011, with the support of Dr. Junaid, the then Medical Superintendent, and P. Rajeev, the current Minister of Industries, an in-house kitchen was set up at General Hospital. This allowed us to provide freshly prepared meals directly to patients near their bedside, ensuring they received the proper nutrition guided by dieticians. Over the years, we expanded the service to offer meals four times a day, seven days a week, to in-patients, many of whom are in critical or long-term care.

Recognizing the vital role of family members and caregivers, we also provide meals for bystanders, who often face their own challenges while supporting patients. These meals, prepared at our facility in Ochanthuruth, are delivered to the hospital four times a week. In addition, we continue to serve meals to the patients in our long-term care
facility in Ochanthuruth, ensuring that they are well-nourished throughout their stay. This meal service, which started as a small initiative, has become a lifeline for many abandoned patients and their families. Jeramiah’s Home remains committed to providing not only nourishment but also warmth, love, and emotional support during difficult times.
